History

In 1867 the first people settled in Ngahinapouri, there were no roads and all goods had to be brought up the Waipa River by a service that ran from Ngaruawahia to Pirongia.  The establishment of a school in 1877 provided a centre for all the social life of the district and the feeling of identity for the district. The school opened with a role of 12 students.  At the beginning of 1912 the school was transferred to a new building erected on the present site and raised to a two teacher school in 1921.  Over the years the school has continued to grow with major renovations being carried out in 1987.  The old Te Rore school was purchased and moved on site in 1993.

When the school was built on its present site, it was felt that a hall should also be built to cater for the larger district gatherings.  From donations from the residents this was accomplished in 1913 with alterations in 1925.  Today the hall is used on a very regular basis for various activities.

The first church services were conducted by the Methodists in the original school and later the Anglicans and Presbyterians used it alternately until the  hall was built.  The church land was donated by the late Mr T Allen and the church was built with district funds and opened in 1965.
