Stewart Reid Memorial Park
An area of land comprising 5 ¼ acres was presented to the District of Ngahinapouri and Tuhikaramea on 1 March 1946 by Mr and Mrs Neil Reid in memory of their son, Stewart Reid who was killed in World War II.
The land is made up of tennis courts and domain land used for many sporting activities. The land is known as the ‘Stewart Reid Memorial Park’ and is administered by a Trust Board comprising ten members.
The Trust Board meets annually, or whenever necessary, to check on finances and the condition of the Park, including the 32 magnificent trees surrounding it. Each of these trees was planted to acknowledge every man from the District who went away to serve in World War II. The Cenotaph is also administered by the Trust Board.
Today, the Memorial Park is funded by a maintenance grant from the Waipa District Council and a rental fee from the Ministry of Education for the use as a playground/sports field for the Ngahinapouri School.
